What is wandervogel?
It is a name associated with a German youth group movement(s) that focused on freeing ones self from the restrictions society places upon us and returning to nature.The movement also emphasized self-responsibility and a spirit of adventure. Why did we choose wandervogel as part of our blog title?
The German language has fantastic words to describe what are complex concepts in English. Like schadenfreude (again, see Wikipedia). We were looking for a word that described what we are doing – traveling in an RV, enjoying nature, and taking a slightly less conventional path. And the word that described that, wandervogel, was there, in German, waiting for the proper Google search to unearth it.
